It never hurts to ask! Contact hello@junedecember.com. We'd love to hear from you.

We're proud to say the majority of June & December products are made in the USA, with nearly all of our raw materials being sourced from the US. We strongly believe in sustainability and reducing our ecological footprint and are committed to domestic sourcing and manufacturing when possible. We do, however, understand that we live in a global economy. As such, we source select imported raw materials and components to ensure we can consistently deliver high-quality products.

SUSTAINABILITY

Please read about our beliefs on our Sustainability page, and you can also find details for each product listed under sustainability on the respective product page.

When we launched June & December, we had high hopes that the industry would support our ambitious initiative to reduce plastics. However, we were met with some reluctant buyers and had to compromise. We are extremely aware of the gift industry's impact on packaging waste, single-use plastics, and the overall environmental impact that comes with the unnecessary waste created in our industry. While we "eco-design" our products and packaging with the intent to minimize packaging waste and engineer self-contained items with reusable packaging components, several small product components still have single-use plastics that we are actively problem-solving as we seek to eliminate all single-use plastics within the June & December supply chain.

Over the past few years, we have gone back to our roots, eliminated single-use plastics from our Notepad packaging, and converted to compostable plant-based PLA plastic bags for our greeting cards. We are currently searching to convert to alternate plant-based PLA bags for several other components and continue to work with our Stockists to encourage fewer vendor requirements to use single-use packaging.

Thin plastics are not curbside recyclable yet. Please check for local stores, such as Grocery and Hardware Store chains, with recycling containers that take thin plastics for proper recycling and reuse.

All of our paper products are made from FSC-certified paper made containing 100% post-consumer waste (PCW) recycled content, which means that no new trees are used in the making of our paper products! By all our paper, we mean ALL of our paper products, including our packaging! We're also proud to say that some of our paper products are even milled with hydroelectric energy right here in Michigan.

PCW stands for Post-Consumer Waste, meaning recycled materials collected. The higher the percentage, the higher amount of recycled content used in the paper. Paper can be made from new virgin woods from recently cut trees, from pre-consumer waste, meaning waste from paper mills and manufacturing plants, or from post-consumer waste, meaning paper that has been collected through recycling programs or paper waste from printing processes, etc. The more post-consumer waste (PCW) recycled content there is in a sheet of paper, the less fresh pulp from trees, energy, and water was used to manufacture paper, saving our natural resources. Additionally, using post-consumer waste as feedstock for paper production results in fewer greenhouse gases and solid waste generated during the paper manufacturing process. Making paper pulp from recycled fibers also requires less bleaching, a process with detrimental environmental effects, than producing virgin paper. That gives our papers the extra character, texture, and creamy color we've come to love!

The Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certification system provides internationally recognized standards in responsible forestry. To obtain certification, a product's entire supply chain must meet the FSC certification process, which serves the best interests of people, wildlife, and the environment. FSC certification is globally recognized as the most credible and stringent system for ensuring well-managed forests.

PRODUCTS

Flour Sack Cotton originated in the 1800s from the invention of the sewing machine, which allowed for dry food items like grain, seeds, and flour to be stored and transported via bag instead of a barrel. The "sack" was made of a tight weave of cotton or canvas that could hold the fine-grain items. Farmers would then reuse and refill the bags or repurpose them for household items like quilts, aprons, towels, or other needs, which increased during the Great Depression. Our flour sack towels and napkins are 100% cotton, and we love their eco-friendly history, high quality, tightly woven functionality of the cotton, low-lint factor, and high absorbency! Perfect for everyday use in the kitchen or bathroom!

Our textiles (towels, napkins, pillows) are screen-printed in small batches in the USA. We use eco-friendly inks that are individually mixed for each batch that permanently dyes the cotton which preserves the soft-touch and natural absorbency of the fabric. Sizes and colors may vary slightly between batches, which we've come to appreciate.

Made from 100% natural unbleached cotton, our pillows are sewn in small batches in Michigan. Available with or without a faux down insert, each pillow is screen-printed to maintain the natural softness of the cotton. Finished with a bottom zipper to remove the insert for easy washing.

We recommend using pillow inserts that are 2 inches larger than the pillow cover to fill out the cover and corners fully. We recommend an 18" x 18" insert for our 16" x 16" inch throw pillow covers to get a plump pillow.

We recommend securing your specimens to your Herbarium pages with acid-free tape or glue. Traditionally, people use cloth tape for securing specimens, but acid-free clear tape or glue works as well and doesn't become the focal point. You can find cloth or clear, acid-free tape and glue readily available at your local craft store.

We designed our glass pencil terrariums to make the packaging as functional as the pencils inside! Turn the glass vase into a dreamy tiny terrarium, encapsulate your nature finds with the cork, use it as a vase, or for propagating your plant pretties! They now have a flat bottom and pair well with our reclaimed wood bases if you're looking for a display option!

Rubbing alcohol will take it right off with a bit of elbow grease, just not too much, so it doesn't break!

Yes! The seven pressing separator pieces that come with the presses are heavy-weight cardboard which should last for many uses if you follow the proper instructions for pressing your specimens. They are 100% recycled, acid-free boards with a neutral PH, perfect for preserving specimens and assisting with moisture control while pressing. If you're looking to press in larger quantities, refills are available here.

We use our tin as a safe transport for small specimens we collect in the wild! We even keep them in our jacket pockets year-round. The tin keeps your tiny treasures safe in your pocket and frees up your hands, whether it be a found robin's egg, an owl pellet, or other little treasure. We also bundle delicate finds in a small piece of cotton (cut-up squares of retired towels work great) to safely transport them home in your pocket-sized tin!

Yes! Specimen bottle refills are available in each size for those looking to expand their collections! You may find them here.

Every piece of our Collecting Kit was carefully designed to provide a packaging solution that is as reusable and minimal as possible. Our pocket tins are meant to be reused time and time again, and the sticky sticker serves as a functional closure to minimize other packaging needs. While removing the sticker and residue can be challenging, we recommend replacing the stickers with our new specimen labels so you can personalize your tin!

Yes! Our 8" x 10" inch art prints fit a standard 8" x 10" inch frame.

CARE INSTRUCTIONS

We recommend that you wash them, wash them again, and when you're done washing them, wash them again! Seriously, these get softer and more absorbent with every wash. We've bleached them in hot water without the colors running or fading (with like colors) and are thrilled with how well they hold up. Certainly, in time, inks may start to fade slightly, but we hope by then you've already purchased another one because it's one of your everyday staples!

All of our textiles are pre-shrunk and iron safe! They look great right from the dryer, but a quick hand smooth on a table will help to smooth out wrinkles. If you want them to look extra crisp or more formal, feel free to iron them using the standard cotton setting on the iron. We want customers to see them in their natural state, so all of the textiles shown in the photos on our website are NOT ironed.

You can, bleach will not make the inks fade or become discolored! However, when bleaching our natural towel collection, the natural coloring of the cotton will gradually turn white and may become uneven in color in the process, so we recommend washing without chlorine bleach, with like colors to preserve the natural unbleached cotton.

Our pillow covers are machine washable with like colors. We recommend removing the insert and washing it inside out or spot cleaning to extend the life of the pillow cover.
