The year my Dad decided to ruin the lawnmower he shared with my grandfather changed my life forever. I remember him pacing as he contemplated the decision. He ruined it by cutting a path through the meadow behind my childhood home.
As a ten-year-old, I didn't realize how much of a mark it would leave. When I design these collections, I'm right back on that path. That path gave me the courage to explore on my own, fueled my love of nature, and is genuinely the most significant gift my Dad ever gave to me.
However, before the path, confined to the edges of the yards surrounding my parents and grandparents' houses, I sorted through my favorite cards in my cherished wildlife treasury. I would use my field guides to identify the birds in our yard.
I observed the tiny iridescent blue beetles that hid between the rocks in our gravel driveway, and carefully provoked roly-polies to roll into a ball.
I loved identifying which leaves came from which trees, and I was proud of the apple tree planted the year I was born.
Discovering the tree frog hiding out in my grandmother's greenhouse was especially amazing.
This year has been all about finding joy in the little things. For me, that means diving into what fills me with awe and wonder and sharing it with all of you. With that, we're excited to introduce our Tree Hugger, Small Wonders, and Green Thumb Collections, which include some of my longtime favorites: trees, plants, frogs, bugs, and tiny crustaceans! We hope they bring some joy and wonder into your days ahead.
