About The Artist
An astute student of nature and collector of clipped sprigs and forest finds you can find Katie’s inspiration deep within her hand-drawn illustrations, graphic designs, and original patterns. Her artwork celebrates and explores the natural wonder found all around us, like the fern: often walked on and overlooked, the fern adds green to the darkest forest shadows where the sunlight remains elusive. Her ferocious curiosity ignites her process, where she often collects, photographs, and studies her subjects before her creations come to fruition. To read more about the inspiration behind her work, explore our stories.
Katie Forte
The Biophiliac
Katie spent much of her childhood summers barefoot among the dirt, climbing trees, or looking for snails, frogs, or butterflies to befriend. In 2001, when Katie started her career in advertising, she moved from the rural area where she grew up, quickly realizing how much she took nature for granted. It wasn't long after that when she began seeking ways to weave it back into her life, which grew as she shared the awe and wonder of nature with her children. In 2006, Katie started selling her designs while freelancing, with her children at her hip. In 2010, a series of difficult events rocked their family, leading Katie & Nick to join forces to create June & December, naming their new adventure after their kids' birth months, symbolizing their commitment to what truly matters. Katie likes to spend her free time with her family, hiking, weeding her garden, watering her plants, or getting lost in a good book.

Nick Forte
The Star Gazer
Nick grew up a self-proclaimed fort-building enthusiast, enjoying hunting and fishing expeditions as soon as he was old enough to get into trouble. Growing up on a lake, he learned to appreciate nature at a young age. At age 13, he started helping behind the scenes at his family’s catering and event business, learning the importance of customer service and logistics firsthand. Before co-founding June & December, Nick continued working in the family event business for 18 years, working his way from dishwasher, event captain, and warehouse manager to operations to general manager, planning complex off-site galas and events. After coordinating the sale of the event business with his family, Nick + Katie decided to join forces to create J&D. In his free time, Nick enjoys spending time with Katie and their teenage children, hiking, cooking, star gazing, traveling, and all things tech.

Olivia Forte
The Froog Lover
Olivia puts June in J&D and has been a behind-the-scenes helper since its inception. Olivia started helping with photo shoots and was in charge of finding toads with her brother during early shoots. Later, she joined as an assembly artist making products and quickly learned how to pick orders. Olivia is also responsible for the dandelion mural on the back of our building, which she painted the summer before her sr. year of high school. A college student now, she helps in and around her schedule, but her own story is just starting to write itself. In her free time, she enjoys snuggling with her floofy cat Luna, coding, playing video games, hiking, traveling to exotic locations (mainly to cold weather spots), and collecting trading cards. We’re excited to see how her future unfolds.

Nathan Forte
The Problem Solver
Nathan puts December in June & December. Nathan started as the lead cat distractor, ensuring our cats didn’t disrupt photo shoots or run outside while loading boxes in and out. Now, in high school, he helps in many ways as an assembly artist, helping to make products. He has been a great help behind the scenes, including unloading and loading trucks and organizing warehouse areas, and will join us in helping plant trees this year. In his free time, he enjoys snuggling with his floofy cat Luna, playing trading card and video games, traveling to big cities (mainly to warm weather spots), and hanging out with his friends. Nathan’s story has only begun, and we’re excited to see his future.

Katie's Process
Every illustrated piece begins as intricate hand-drawn sketches during Katie’s studies of natural subjects. These tracing papers show part of her process as she begins capturing each subject before bringing it into the computer. She has accumulated quite a library of past illustrations, now done digitally, to minimize paper use and simplify her process. Once each piece is on the computer, the fun part of her creative process begins, where she will build patterns or individual designs, choose color palettes, and prototype different products.
